NYAA (National Youth Achievement Award)

The NYAA is an award similar to the Duke of Edinburgh award in that students have to demonstrate stewardship for the outdoors, plan and participate in expeditions and contribute to community though service. I am currently one of Two NYAA coordinators at UWCSEA which involves a lot of planning and training related to the outdoors You can click in the image below to access our training site to see what we get up to. Coordinating the NYAA can be stressful at times but is also extremely rewarding and enjoyable.

General Outdoor Trip Leadership

I have planned and led a number of outdoor education trips across several age groups. These have included grade-wide outdoor trips as well as subject-specific multi and one day trips, including trips overseas.

Keys to the success of these trips have been:

  • Proactive and forward-thinking when planning

  • Collaboration with trip agents and activity organisers

  • Thorough risk assessments with identified dangers being planned for or removed

  • Inclusive activities and groups that focus on friendship, growth and teamwork

  • Detailed and informative trip packs created for all group leaders

  • Liaising with parents/guardians at every stage to ensure understanding and peace of mind

  • Additional measures put in place to comply with Government guidelines and rules

For the past two years, i have worked collaboratively with Asia Motions to plan outdoor, growth and experience-focused trips for students to participate in.
