CABLE WINDER [DESIGN ITERATION]
Statement of inquiry: Successful design is a fine balance between form and function
Global Context: Scientific & Technical Innovation
Key & Related Concepts: Form and Function
ATL Skills: Creative thinking and communication
Grade 7 - The Cable Winder Project focuses largely on the process of design development and iteration. Students start by researching and analysing existing solutions in order to identify design opportunities. They then begin to design ideas that are linked to their chosen theme area and then develop three of these initial ideas onto cardboard models which are tested and analysed by themselves and their peers. Finally, students design the idea identified as most suitable in TinkerCAD so that it can be 3D printed. Once printed, this prototype goes through a series of testing and design iteration until a final solution is achieved.
